Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

The complete WCAG regulations can be consulted on the W3C website. Since Scribit.Pro focuses on video accessibility, we have reproduced the points from the guidelines below.

Guideline 1.1 Alternative text

Provide alternative text for all non-text content, so that it can be changed into other forms that people need, such as large letters, braille, speech, symbols or simpler language.

Success criterion 1.1.1 non-text content

All non-text content presented to the user has an alternative text that serves an equivalent purpose, except for the situations listed below.

Sensory

If non-text content is primarily intended to create a specific sensory experience, then alternative text provides at least a description of the non-text content.

Guideline 1.2 Time-based media

Provide alternatives to time-based media.

Success criterion 1.2.2 Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing

Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing shall be provided for all pre-recorded audio content in synchronised media, except where the media file is a media alternative to text and is clearly labelled as such.

Success criteria 1.2.3 and 1.2.5 Audio description

(LEVEL A) An alternative to time-based media or audio description of the pre-recorded video content shall be provided for synchronised media, except where the media file is a media alternative to text and is clearly labelled as such.

(LEVEL AA) An audio description is provided for all pre-recorded video content in synchronised media.

Success criterion 1.2.6 Sign language

(LEVEL AAA) Sign language interpretation is provided for all pre-recorded audio content in synchronised media.

Success criterion 1.2.7 Extended audio description

(LEVEL AAA) Where pauses in foreground sound are insufficient to apply audio descriptors to convey the video's message, extended audio descriptors are provided for all pre-recorded video content in synchronised media.

Success criterion 1.2.8 Media alternative

(AAA LEVEL) An alternative is provided for time-based media for all pre-recorded synchronised media and for all pre-recorded video-only media.
